Description

The aim of this handwriting booklet is to provide left-handers and their teachers with a document that incorporates a few simple rules specific to left-handers. We hope that this crucial stage will be approached with confidence and will, dare we say it, lead to dexterity that is comparable or even better than that of many right-handers. This booklet is available as an ELECTRONIC FILE (pdf format). It will be available for you to download. This will enable you to consult the advice and explanatory pages on screen and limit printing to the exercise pages only. Whereas with traditional single-use notebooks, the learning space is limited (just a few lines), the electronic format allows you to print as many times as you need until you and your teacher are satisfied. Of course, the intellectual property code applies and use of the file is limited to the circle of a family, a school class or a professional practice (occupational therapist, psychomotor therapist, etc.). The section entitled ‘Preparing for writing’ explains the position of the notebook, how to hold the pencil and anything else specific to left-handers. At the end of the booklet, we have included a table of successes that the child can gradually fill in as he or she progresses. The highlight will come when they can finally write their first and last names on their left-handed writer’s diploma. Supervision by the teacher is essential to validate these stages. Each letter comes in four different sizes: from 17 cm to 1.4 cm. Children trace the large letters with their finger, following the arrows, then write with a felt-tip pen or large pencil. They then move on to the smaller letters using a black pencil, ballpoint pen or fountain pen. The letter templates are, of course, placed on the right-hand side, as they are usually hidden by the left-handed person’s hand.
